Actichem AP677 Defender CSD 50 is a premium proprietary impregnating sealer that consolidates friable material, strengthens substrates and provides powerful water repellent protection. Most popular with construction materials such as sandstone, limestone, clay and concrete, Defender CSD 50 reacts with the substrate to create an extremely strong and durable bond — protecting against structural weakening and erosion for many years.

Based on an extremely small molecule size, Defender CSD 50 penetrates 10 to 20mm into porous substrates, delivering unparalleled protection for heritage buildings, monuments, marine structures, concrete pavements and stone facades.

APPLICATION AREAS AND SURFACE SUITABILITY

Defender CSD 50 is formulated to provide premium protection to porous construction materials, and is ideally suited to heritage and delicate, friable or crumbling stone. Ideal for limestone, sandstone and concrete structures.

Expected Wear: Provides premium protection for up to 15 years. Re-application every 8–12 years is recommended where harsh conditions exist. Avoid solvents, strong acids and strong alkalis to extend sealer life.

Considerations:

• Not to be used as sub-terrain waterproofing
• Do not apply if temperature exceeds 40°C or if rain is expected within 2 hours of application
• If rain has preceded application, allow the surface 24 hours to dry completely

HOW TO USE

Read and understand the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity prior to full application.

Adhesive Compatibility: When tiles are dip-sealed prior to installation, use a polymer-modified adhesive designed to overcome the repellency of a penetrating sealer. Compatible adhesives include Davco SE-7 (with Davelastic) and Mapei Granirapid.

Surface Preparation:

• New installations must be fully cured before application (minimum 48 hours; some concrete may require up to 7 days)
• Existing stone and grout must be totally clean, dry and chemical free
• Do not apply in direct sunlight; temperature must be between 10°C and 28°C
• Highly absorbent surfaces may require two coats

DILUTION

Ready to use. Do not dilute.

APPLICATION

1. Apply 1 to 2 coats of Defender CSD 50 by generously saturating the surface using a polish applicator, roller or sprayer. Work in manageable sections of approximately 15m².
2. Ensure even coverage. When treating vertical surfaces, start from the bottom and work upwards to avoid uneven coverage.
3. The surface must remain shiny wet with a liquid film for at least 30 seconds. Apply additional sealer to very porous substrates as needed.
4. Allow 5–10 minutes for the sealer to absorb. On horizontal surfaces, move excess product with a squeegee to a new section.
5. If applying a second coat, wait 20–30 minutes and repeat the process.
6. Using absorbent towelling or an applicator, wipe off any sealer remaining on the surface after 10 minutes of the last application. Moisten the towel with Methylated Spirits to remove any dried residues.
7. Allow 6–12 hours before returning the area to traffic. Keep dry for 24 hours. Full cure achieved in 24–48 hours.
